So you've decided to visit Amazing Anambas. The next step is to book your way in. Actually, Anambas is accessible by sea and by air. There's a decent ferry service and a more than decent aerial service. Each has its own set of upsides and downsides of course. Let's clarify.
The ferry to Anambas is cheap. It's the budget way into Anambas, that much is clear. However, the flip-side is that it's an 8 hour journey, which can extend to 10 hours or more if and when the seas is choppy along the way, given that the ferry speed needs to be reduced when conditions demand.
All aboard for Anambas...
Whilst the ferry vessel isn't bad, it's not a recent model by any means and, as such, tends to have a few drawbacks. For example, it's a bit cramped, both seat-wise and cabin-wise. Also, climate control in the cabin tends to be somewhat hit or miss. What's more, proper F&B isn't available, so you need to BYO.
But... it's cheap, so it may be the transport mode of choice for backpackers and other such budget travelers.
The plane to Anambas is a more convenient option; it's just an hour's flight for starters, and cabin and seat comfort score highly. But it's more costly than the ferry, particularly when you factor in the taxi trips between Anambas airport to your destination.
The Anambas airport is in Letung and you can fly to Letung from Batam, located just off Singapore, or from Jakarta. This flight operates Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. (If you're departing from Jakarta, just replace Batam.) Ticket cost should be around 1,500,000 Indonesian Rupiah for a one-way ticket or 3,000,000 Rupiah for a roundtrip, although it can be higher during peak season spells, tht is, .

Overall, the flight service offered is great, however. In fact, most overseas travelers would probably agree that, all told, catching the plane into Anambas is excellent value for money, particularly since taxis in Anambas are very affordable.
